The 14 murals that adorn Savages Lane in Kempsey have been created by 11 exceptional artists to celebrate the natural beauty and shared history of this picturesque NSW region.

Kempsey is the capital of the Macleay Valley Coast, a destination on the mid-north coast of NSW that offers an appealing mix of beautiful coastline and stunning hinterland as well as stand out attractions and vistas you won’t find anywhere else.

​

Savages Lane is part of the Macleay Valley Coast Art Trail, where local artists bring their visions to life against the backdrop of this beautiful region. You’ll be surprised as you encounter a variety of mediums, from traditional to contemporary as you immerse yourself in the thriving arts and culture scene.

Nestled on the banks of the Macleay River, Kempsey is the major service town of the Macleay Valley Coast, offering a blend of old-world charm in a thriving regional river town. It is famous as the birthplace of country music legend Slim Dusty and Akubra Hats, Australia’s iconic hat brand.

The artists who contributed to the murals: Llama (a.k.a Alana Cabrera), Carakola (a.k.a Alejandra Ramirez), Alex Sugar, Ash Johnstone, Ash Taylor, Christina Huynh (STYNA), Clair McAlpine (a.k.a Brain Rot Inc.), Deb Broughton, Ellie Hannon, INDO the Artist, Dowhatfeelsgood (a.k.a Jack Hodges). Jamie Rylance, Jason Ridgeway, Kelly Purvis, Melanie Webb, Stephen McLeod, Headspace Kempsey & Community Housing Ltd Youth Collaboration and other members of the community.

Where? Savages Lane is in the heart of Kempsey NSW

Best viewing times: The murals are mostly on the northern and southern walls of the lane, so anytime during the day.
