Sandwiched between Burleigh and Mermaid Beach on Queensland's Gold Coast, Miami is a small beachy village with big energy.

 

Once an industrial hub housing trade businesses and storage sheds, this southern destination has evolved into a bustling urban hub that is go-to for Gold Coast locals and visitors. They come for the cafe culture, artistic undercurrent, laid back lifestyle and refreshingly authentic feel of the place. With cafes, restaurants, art spaces, creative workshops, music venues, craft breweries and night markets, there are endless options for entertainment.

Miami Marketta is a Gold Coast institution - a hybrid street food market, live music venue and nightspot open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Each July the same folks who run that Marketta put on a show that sees the Gold Coast come alive as artists and creatives alike flock to participate in the SURFACE festival, a showcase of epic street art, gallery nights, outdoor exhibitions and live laneway music.

 

This mural was painted during the 2022 SURFACE as a collaboration between renowned muralist Adnate and Indigenous cultural performer Luther Cora. It is a community favourite and for good reason: Luther is also a Yugambeh photographer and educator, and for this work Adnate referenced an image Luther took of his daughter.
